My name is Jonathan Desbiens. I’m from a lovely french-speaking small town called Shawinigan, in Quebec (Canada). One half of myself is driven by my never-satisfied curiosity and wants to explore the whole universe while the other half is deeply missing this strange little industrial town. I think most of my inspiration comes from that paradox.
I was born in 1986 and played with my Legos until 2000. Then, I thought I had to become more grown up. So I picked up a camera, and with 2 VHS decks, started to make films with my friends about whatever we were able to invent as kids. That’s how I discovered all the power of images in motion, the liberating sensations of artistic creation, the possibilities of expressing myself and communicating personal, abstract concepts to others in a playful way. In doing so, my secret plan to stay young forever was working, and still is. Working as a film director gives me the opportunity to meet new awesome people from around the world who share this common goal of creating artful entertainment that may change someone else’s life. I firmly, naively believe that films, music videos and even sometimes commercials can do that, directly or indirectly.
I discovered and mastered the post-production technics at a very young age by myself, completed a degree in Fine Arts from the UQTR in 2010 in the hope of developing a very personal approach to cinema and learned the director's craft in the real world.
